  • To smoke or not to smoke
  • Wed. Jun, 1st 2005

Wed. Jun, 1st 2005So, today is the beginning of a new era in Sweden. For smokers and non-smokers. A really difficult period for tobacco-addicted indeed. The Swedish gouvernment has decided to ban the smokers from all the public places. No more tobacco in pubs, clubs and so on. The only place where you'll be allowed to smoke now is outside. So, the Swedish gouvernment has been clever enough to start this law on June, 1st instead of December. Nobody would have accepted getting frozen outside to consume his nicotin...
So, most of my non-smoking colleagues are very happy of this decision, and try to convince me that they will be more often tremendously shagging themselves on dance floors. I, as non-smoker, is much more torn between the preservation of my lungs (which is definitely a good thing) and the restriction of private liberties. Especially here in Sweden, where already, many people are snuss-ing instead of smoking... We are very far from the small "bar PMU" in France (every tourist in France has seen such a small smoked bar) and they decided to apply this new law. Maybe that will be good for the future (with many cancers avoided) but I am not fond of complete restrictions. So, now, we will give privileges to non-smokers to go to club while the real-smokers won't be able anymore to enter (at least to stay 1 hour without smoking)?
Definitely, I find this law extremist. And I have learnt that "the most extreme, the most dangerous". And it's true on all topics. I have always been against the lack of choices for people as human being (is this French?). Now, I am just more convinced than before...
