This week-end is now over (and I already feel that the wake up tomorrow morning -in 5 hours-) will be kind of difficult... But that was a very nice week-end. EVerything started on Saturday (although the idea poped up in my mind during the week). I had to go to the 郵便局 to pick a letter from the bank. But, instead of ashamely take the bus (3 stops) to enjoy the aircon as much as possible, I decided to do some sports (the 3 weeks in France left some damages to my "silhouette") and took my bike. A bike that didn't expect me any more since he was left alone and useless since the end of 2006 (when I had this back pain that stopped any squash activity for a temporary period, still active now that Philippe is gone to Singapore). Anyway, I rode my bike for the 3 bus stops and realised that the bike was the best for going from any point A to a different point B: you don't feel the heat since your face is nicely exposed to some wind. Then, on the way back, instead of rushing home to spend the rest of the day under the air con (what an interesting activity), I decided to visit the area and see what was interesting in the neighbourhood. I can't say for the neighbourhood since I quickly (and intentionally) get lost quite far from 大森. I got closer to 羽田 and happened to see the ocean and the flower market. when I realised that I couldn't see anything but warehouse and stinky plastic bags, I decided to go back and get lost somewhere else. Finally, I found my way back although I wanted to go to 蒲田. Anyway, it was time to go home: I was exhausted, starving and the face as red as a lobster after, already, a few minutes in boililng water... I could take my breath again but also realised that being inside was the worst ever... air con and liters of water/juice/Coca helped passing the day but in my mind, I knew that I wouldn't (couldn't?) pass another day like this: I had to move far from 東京 and closer to the ocean. One easy and good destination was in mind. And unless a giant 地震 blocking all the trains, for sure, I would spend most of my day there on Sunday.
Sunday happened. The giant 地震 didn't. So, at 1pm, I was in the train, on my way to 鎌倉 for an afternoon of farniente and bath. There, I could enjoy the old shop district (which I never saw so far), a couple of temples and finally, see the ocean and the dark sticky sand. Anyway, I found 5 square meters for my towel and my lazy afternoon started. Nothing much to say about it but a couple of observation:
- locals leave the beach early: people start leaving at 3h30...
- locals don't spend much time on the beach: a lot just come, swim and leave...
- locals when they spend longer time, come with their house: chairs, parasols, icebox, food...
- the lifeguards are karaoke-addict: They can't spend the afternoon with talking into it every 20 minutes to repeat that we have to be careful for kids and they will leave at 5pm...
- local "surfers" don't mind 30cm waves. At 5pm, you can see dozens coming all at the same time and rushing for 30/40cm waves that break 30m from the shore... Incredible.
- in Japan like everywhere, don't take your car to come to the beach during high season.
- a pseudo-yakuza and his 渋谷ガール arrested by 3 policemen is funny to see. Yes, it is! The best is when the policemen are questioning him in the 交番 and the guy pretends to leave. You can feel really endangered by such a character, I can tell you. Unless the proper adjective is amused...

Anyway, it is late now and as the Sun does on the picture (no I won't go to the West), I'll go to bed.

I was laughing so hard about Japanese coming to beach with their house, I accidentaly knocked off coffee on my table. ah la la. What a nice weekend! You got your 自転車 working...BTW I guess 自動車 will come to you in a few years, when needed...it is almost the same, but 自転車 has 2 wheels while 自動車 has 4 wheels and runs on the gas ;)
