Sun. Aug, 26 2007The IAAF World Championships have started in 大阪 and, as every international event (Athletics, football, and rugby soon...) shown on local TV, all you can see is the 12th position of the local "champion" in Pole Vault, the Japanese so-said Prince of something, the Japanese so-said angel of something else, but no ranking, sometimes no name of the competitors and don't even think of seeing a first round of a competition in which no Japanese run... On top of that, you can also add a lot of カタカナ all over the screen, annoying screaming-all-the-time アナウンサ, 2 minutes long close up of the "people" (understand the supposed star of each competition), plenty of these screens showing the Japanese athlets 'fighting' against the rest of the World (preferrably US, Russia and China) and commercials every 15 minutes and you have what we can see of this event.
A good way to get rid of the worst part of it is:
1- Cut the sound
2- put music
3- try to get a timetable on the Internet of the event so you can know when to switch on TV (so far, mo timetable of the day or the day after has been seen on TV -maybe they expect to keep you watching all day...-).
4- switch the sound on when foreigners are interviewed (some time, and we sometimes don't even have the translation)

So, in a word, Japanese TV looks to me even worse than before (although NHK remains a good choice, I admit). But, since I finally had to work today (thanks to Korean exchanges), I couldn't move anywhere to rest and forget about the past week. So, just stayed home not doing much but wasting the few free time I have... (which may explain the bitter of this post)
