Days pass by and don't really look alike. We woke up with a very bad news (quite common these days) but the different versions of the events start being quite interesting. Or maybe it is the nerve-breaking hundreds of aftershocks (or other earthquake like tonight) but they start succeeding in making things really unclear and fishy.
Who? well between the French embassy (first one to recommend people to leave Tokyo and now repeating that there is no danger in Tokyo), the overseas media, the Japanese TV and the succession of events themselves...

In the same day we heard: a very important and dangerous explosion at the plant, dangerous level of radioactivity in Fukushima, an increase of radioactivity all along the way between Tokyo and the plant (Ibaraki: 100x the regular level, Shinjuku: 20x and Kanagawa: 6x), the protection "chest" of reactor 2 being open on 8m long and a reactor #4 not really under control.
At the same time, we heard: there is no risk for Tokyo (but leave the area if you can) and now, as I write, that the protection of reactor #3 is no longer confirmed...

So, after an attempt to follow the embassy procedure to get a seat on tonight's flight (send an email sounded strange to me but not receiving any answer is no surprise), we have decided to go to Kyoto. Not really for sightseeing itself but to get some air and let Miss and the baby to come relax a little. So, we will move away and see how things are going and how long the embassy will keep saying that the radiation will stop at Omiya and not go down to Tokyo. Good to see we are back to 1986!

Tomorrow also, call with the management to see what's next (I don't know why but I feel like it is going to be a wonderful session of internal marketing on how much we take care of our guys but how less we can't afford anything). I'll see from there where my next posts will be written from...

がんばれ日本!

[edit 11:58 JST] there is no (additional) problem with reactor 3. The AIEA mistyped 3 for 2. No comment.
