The story of X begins in 82 when
Yoshiki persuades
Toshi to abandon his dreams of medicine studies to become the singer of their new rock band, X. The music of X doesn't really please to them until 1987, when
Pata,
Hide and
Taiji joined the group and bring something to the band. For, the agreement between each of the members is so good that it allows them to prepare their first album... One year after, their first commercial album,
Vanishing Vision, is released and the adventure really starts.
The album is acclaimed by experts for songs such as
I'll Kill You,
Kurenai or
Sadistic Desire. Their style isn't completely defined but everyone notices the mix between highly epic and moving orchestral music with pure heavy metal madness. The explosion really takes place one year after with the album
Blue Blood which reveals X to the large public. Its most famous singles are
Blue Blood,
X or
Endless Rain. This album is more researched than the previous one and show the wide range of the band's artistic possibilities. For, the album includes some hard rock songs and also some ballads composed by
Yoshiki, the main writer of the songs. The popularity of X explodes so much that fans have to wait for three years to hear the next album:
Jealousy. Even if the style keeps changing, the sales are among the best of the band. At that time, X decides to start a big tour through all the Japan,
especially in the Tokyo Dome for a concert which still remains among the most important and known in Japan... Nevertheless, at the end of the tour,
Taiji, the bass player decides to leave, quickly replaced by
Haith. At the same time, X has to change its name, because X was already used by an American group. Its new name is X Japan... Then, the group will be very busy with its different tours and their next album will only appear in 1995 with
Art Of Life, a maxi single, composed of a single song which lasts more than 32 minutes... Their next and last album is
Dahlia and definitely differs from their origins because it is composed of five ballads and only one or two songs which can be compared to their first ones...
